The Detroit Lions announced Wednesday that the club has signed running back George Winn. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Winn is a native of Southfield, Michigan and played his collegiate ball at Cincinnati.

He originally signed with Houston as an undrafted free agent in May 2013. After the Texans parted ways with Winn, he signed with the Patriots in June and played for the club through the end of August.

He would later have practice squad stints with the Raiders (October 2013), Steelers (October 2013-November 2013) and Cowboys (December 2013).

Winn, 23, is entering his second year as a pro.

The 5-11, 210-pound Winn rushed for 1,334 yards and 13 touchdowns in his senior season with the Bearcats. He appeared in three preseason games for New England, rushing for 52 yards and a TD on 15 carries.

Winn joins a Lions backfield that is already home to Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, Theo Riddick, and Mikel Leshoure.
