With NASCAR rumbling into the Irish Hills of Brooklyn, Michigan this Sunday, it’s time to take a look at the top 5 favorites to win the Pure Michigan 400.

Both Ford Motor Company and General Motors call Detroit home and Michigan International Speedway is located a mere hop, skip and jump from the Motor City. With the two manufactures headquarters so close to MIS, it’s often a hot spot for both company higher-ups and C.E.O’s to frequent while NASCAR is in town.

This in turn puts the teams powered by Ford and Chevrolet under immense pressure to have a strong run, and more importantly bring home the checkered flag, (and bragging rights) to their respective manufactures.

MIS was dominated by Fords for many years, specifically Roush Fenway Racing. RFR has the most wins at Michigan in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with 13: Mark Martin (four), Greg Biffle (four), Carl Edwards (two), Matt Kenseth (two) and Kurt Busch (one).  Ford Motor Company as a whole has 32 victories at the two-mile oval while Chevrolet has 21.

As of late however, Hendrick Motorsports and the horsepower within their power plants have been on a tear in the Sprint Cup series. Jimmie Johnson took top honors last spring in the Quicken Loans 400 at MIS, giving Hendrick Motorsports its fifth strait win at the time.

So, all things considered, I’ll now give you my top 5 favorites to win the Pure Michigan 400 of 2014.
