In last weeks football picks, the Detroit Jock City Staff was at it again this time with mixed results.  Tony Fischer rebounded nicely going 9-3 against the number and nailed his lock and upset. Zach Libby broke even against our regular slate of game but just missed on his lock of the week.  Joel Greer had the week off but returns to defend his perfect 3-0 record in predicting locks.

So which teams does the DJC Staff predict will come out on top this week?  Our staff of “experts” is split on whether or not Michigan State can cover 31 points over the Wyoming Cowboys.  They are also split on the outcome of the Michigan game with one of the staff (Zach Libby) predicting another devastating upset for Michigan.

The Detroit Lions are a road favorite against the New York Jets in another tough road test.  It is tough to win on the road in the NFL and once again the staff could not come to a consensus on this one.

Here is how the picks stack up for the weekend of September 26th.

Locks And Upsets

Joel Greer

Lock of the Week

Clemson (-14.5) over North Carolina

Still smarting from the 23-17 overtime loss to Fl. State, coach Babo Swinney is changing quarterbacks.  Backup QB Deshawn Watson, who nearly led the Tigers to an upset over the Seminoles, gets the start against the Tarheels. Clemson’s defense allows just 273.53 yards per game, 12th in the nation.

Upset Of The Week

Duke over Miami (FL)

The Hurricanes playing more like Miami (OH), losing 6 of their last 8 games. The Blue Devils, who easily defeated Miami last season (48-30),  will do it again this week. David Cutcliff, who was named ACC coach of the year each of the last two season, is rapidly changing Durham from a basketball town to f a football mecca.

Zach Libby

Lock Of The Week

Michigan State -31 over Wyoming

What Does Michigan State do following a loss to Oregon in week two? Score 73 points on instate foe and Mid-American Conference bottom feeder Eastern Michigan. Now, the Spartans will play host to another lowly FBS program in Wyoming, who are led by former North Dakota St. head coach Craig Bohl. The Cowboys are headed in the right direction early on this season with a 3-1 record, but will soon be trampled on by the Big Ten powerhouse.

Upset Of The Week

Minnesota Over Michigan

Judging by the way Michigan has played in their last four games, they should the one getting the 11 points, even if the game is being played at the Big House. This will be the first Big Ten conference game of the season for the Wolverines and better yet, the game that could determine the fate of head coach of Brady Hoke. If the Golden Gophers pull off the upset, be ready for the torches to be lit in Ann Arbor.

Tony Fischer

Lock Of The Week

California -15 over Colorado

It took a miraculous comeback by the Arizona Wildcats to beat the Golden Bears last week.  California lost that battle of big play offenses and will take their frustrations out on the lowly Buffaloes. The Golden Bears have a big play passing offense ranking 13th in the country when throwing the ball.  Sure the Bears have benefited from playing some weak defenses but Colorado is no different. The Golden Bears will roll up the Buffs at home.

Miami Ohio Over Buffalo

True the RedHawks own a 20 game losing streak and true they are considered one of the worst teams in the FBS.  But the RedHawks hung in their with Michigan and took Cincinnati to the wire last week.  The Hawks can pass the ball but they have also done a pretty good job against the pass this season.  The RedHawks should be able to slow the Bulls passing offense enough wo squeak out a win and stun Buffalo at home.
