Detroit Tigers Edition

The Hot Stove season is starting to play itself out as the buzz increases about some of the years biggest free agents.  One of those free agents is Melky Cabrera who has been connected to a number of teams recently but mostly to the Detroit Tigers.

It is rumored that there is heavy interest in the free agent left fielder whom Dave Dombrowski is targeting to replace the departed Torii Hunter.

With Max Scherzer still on the market fans are wondering if the former Cy Young award winner will be wearing the Old English D next season after all.  But if Max comes back what about David Price? The possibility of a trade involving Price is starting to get traction among bloggers and pundits.

Meanwhile with David Dombrowski working the phones, the Detroit Tigers prospects were working their tails off in Arizona to convince the Tigers brass that the solution to the Tigers outfield gap can be found right down on the farm.

From the Freep: Detroit Tigers prospects Moya, Ray and Manitply Impress In Arizona Fall League

"Outfielder Steven Moya and left-handed pitchers Robbie Ray and the Joe Mantiply had the best performances among the seven prospects the Detroit Tigers sent to the Arizona Fall League. Moya, who was named the MVP this past season of the Double-A Eastern League, had a slash line of .289/.327/.544 in 23 games in the AFL. Moya had six doubles, one triple and five home runs with 19 RBIs and was 5-for-7 in stolen-base attempts. In 90 at-bats, he had 26 hits and 29 strikeouts."

From MLive: Detroit Tigers Prospect Tries To Make Up For Lost Time

"During the Arizona Fall League, Detroit Tigers prospect Daniel Fields did his best to make up for lost time. After putting together his first solid offensive season in 2013 for Double-A Erie, Fields broke his right hand in May when he was hit by a pitch and struggled throughout the remainder of the 2014 season for Triple-A Toledo."

From MLive: Detroit Tigers Did Not Pursue Russell Martin

"The fact that the Detroit Tigers picked up their team option on catcher Alex Avila on the same day that free-agent catcher Russell Martin signed a lucrative deal with the Toronto Blue Jays appears to be nothing more than a coincidence."

From BlessYouBoys.com: Detroit Tigers May Be shopping David Price

"If everything goes to plan, David Price’s tenure in Detroit may be shorter than we thought. BYB has learned through a source that the Tigers “may be shopping David Price” to other teams this offseason. A potential deal, in theory, would clear up room for the Tigers to sign Max Scherzer to a long-term contract."

From NHGN.com: Melky Cabrera Headed To Detroit?

"Free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera is now expected to have a new team in 2015 after the Toronto Blue Jays signed catcher Russell Martin to a five-year, $82 million contract and surrendered their first round pick in this year’s draft. Are the Detroit Tigers a legitimate destination for Cabrera?"
