Way back in 2009, the Detroit Lions began a new journey. The Matt Millen era had officially ended and the Mayhew/Lewand age began. In the 6 years since Martin Mayhew accepted the General Manager position he has been either praised or vilified by the media and fans alike. The question most ask is “well is Martin Mayhew the right man for the job?” The idea that Mayhew is less than stellar at drafting is the most popular one of them all. Today I have put together a grading system called the Payton Draft Grade System or the P.D.G.S.

Here is how it works: Each draft pick will be given a grade that Is between 1-5. 1 being the lowest and of course 5 being the highest. The grades break down like so:

1. Wasted Pick

2. Disappointment (Legal, Injuries)

3. Middle of the road pick/Rotational player

4. Man with a future

5. Superstar/Elite
