Detroit Tigers Trade Rumors: Dodgers Focusing on David Price?

Johnny Cueto was traded from the Cincinnati Reds to the Kansas City Royals earlier on Sunday, leaving Cole Hamels and (potentially) David Price as the two top-tier starting pitchers on the market this trade season.

We’ve already listed the teams who have been linked by report to the Detroit Tigers and David Price in trade discussions, but, of those teams, it may be the Los Angeles Dodgers who are most-intent on landing the ace lefty.

The Dodgers are, perhaps, the team in baseball least concerned with finances, so they probably aren’t overly concerned that Price is a free agent at the end of the season. If they’re looking for a long-term rotation piece to go with Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, they could always acquire Price now via trade and offer him a mega extension in free agency.

That doesn’t mean they’ll be overly eager to overpay the Tigers (in terms of prospects) to land Price, but, with Cueto out of the picture, the market for top-tier starting pitching has begun to thin, but the Dodgers appear desperate to bolster their starting staff which thins considerably after those big top-two names.

The Tigers are looking for a young starting pitcher who could be ready to join the rotation as soon as next season. The prospect names at the top of that list for the Dodgers would be Julio Urias, Chris Anderson, and Jose De Leon (all three are currently in AA)

The Dodgers would probably not be eager to give up any of their very top pitching prospects, but these are certainly the first names the Tigers would be asking for. A more likely package might include more names who are smaller in profile.
