DJC College Football Top 25 Week 5: Michigan Wolverines Enter the Fray

facebooktwitterreddit

The program turnaround at Michigan appears ahead of schedule as the Wolverines properly thumped the formerly ranked BYU Cougars on Saturday. The strong performance helped Michigan debut in the DJC Top 25 poll this week at No. 23.

The addition of the Wolverines brings the Big Ten’s ranked team total to five (Ohio State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan). That puts them far from the lead still as the SEC claims seven ranked teams in the below poll. The Big 12 and Pac-12 both have five teams ranked while the ACC ranks two. Notre Dame is the lone independent.

No teams from outside of the power conferences earned a spot in this week’s DJC Top 25.

The top portion of the rankings stayed relatively stable this week. The top four held their ground while Baylor and Georgia flopped spots at five and seven. UCLA and Utah made rather large jumps in to the top ten after each put up a strong performance in their Pac-12 opener.
