The Detroit Pistons need a major improvement in their effort to avoid back to back letdowns when they take on the Denver Nuggets at Pepsi Center tonight.

Perhaps we should have seen it coming. The Detroit Pistons were playing the second game of their ninth back-to-back of the season and while the New Orleans Pelicans are a beatable team, the Pistons came out flat.

The loss dropped the Pistons to 1-1 on their current four-game road trip which continues against the Denver Nuggets tonight.

The Pistons offense has been led by their starters all season and the good and the bad of that was on full display in the last two games. In the team’s win over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night, all five Pistons starters scored at least 17 points with Marcus Morris pouring in a team-high 22. It was a different story the next night against the Pelicans when Morris and Reggie Jackson failed to score in double-figures.

Brandon Jennings stepped up off the bench to score 20 against the Pelicans but his efforts were not enough to overcome an overall lackluster performance.

Related Story: Trading Jennings would be a mistake

Jennings has been an important contributor off the bench since his return from the Achilles injury that ended his 2014-15 season but the Pistons are at their best when the starters are clicking with Jennings providing a boost. They’ll either get back to that tonight or risk turning the clunker against the Pelicans into just the first game of a losing streak.
