The Detroit Red Wings are on the ropes as they are down three games to one heading to Game 5 in Tampa Bay. The Red Wings are on the brink of elimination.

The Detroit Red Wings face an uphill battle after they lost Game 3 on Tuesday night. Now the Red Wings have to win three games in a row, including two in Tampa Bay, to avoid elimination.

With the Lightning up 2-0 late in the second, Joe Louis Arena was mostly quiet. Until Darren Helm got the Red Wings on the board with five minutes left in the period.

Gustav Nyquist then got the crowd into a frenzy with a tying goal in the dying seconds of the period. The Red Wings had all the momentum until Jonathan Ericsson was penalized for cross checking late in the third.

The Lightning made the Red Wings pay as they converted for the third time on the power play as Ondrej Palat scored to give the Lightning the lead for good.

Nikita Kucherov scored his fourth and fifth goals of this series as him and Tyler Johnson have, for all intents of purposes, killed the Red Wings this series.

They now face three must win games now and unfortunately they haven’t given me any evidence that they can win three games in a row against the Lightning.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the Lightning are without Steven Stamkos and that the Red Wings are for the most part healthy.

I know it’s cliche but the Red Wings really have to take this a game at a time. Win Game 5 tonight and then head back to the Joe to try and survive another day.

Here is the information for tonight’s game:

Was Game 4 the last time we see Pavel Datsyuk at the Joe? Will the Red Wings stave off elimination and do what the Chicago Blackhawks did to them a couple years ago?

For the Red Wings to have any chance to come back in this series they need to shut down Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov. The game will also come down to special teams. The Red Wings need to start clicking on their power play while shutting down the Lightning power play.

The Red Wings power play in this series is 1 for 21. Think about that. 1 for 21. That needs to change and change quick.

Next: Tigers should option Anthony Gose to make room for Maybin
