Week Five brought us a wonderful early season match up between the top two team in the rankings. The Washington Nationals have been beating up on opponents with excellent pitching until they ran into a buzz saw that is the Chicago Cubs offense. This is almost certainly a playoff preview as these teams are a class above most everyone else in baseball right now.

Our hometown Tigers turned in a fairly terrible week of performances getting swept by both the Indians(again) and the Rangers. Most of the week it was the bullpen that was the biggest area of concern following a 7 run blowup yesterday in the 8th inning. Starting pitching hasn’t been bad as Jordan Zimmermann and Justin Verlander have turned in some great performances.

The talk this week will likely center around how much longer Brad Ausmus has left as the coach of the Tigers. The rumors were circling last season and after another disappointing week those talks are likely to heat up.

Around the rest of the league, two Florida teams are headed in the right direction as the Marlins and Rays are two of the biggest movers this week. The Cubs made the biggest statement of the week cementing themselves as the top team in baseball.

Let’s get to the rankings…
