The Detroit Red Wings host the Ottawa Senators tonight in the final home opener at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings are winless so far this season.

The Detroit Red Wings did not have a good Florida trip to start the 2016-17 season. After losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, the Red Wings followed that up by losing to the Florida Panthers on Saturday.

After trailing 2-0 early in the game, the Red Wings got a big goal from Darren Helm. He scored late in the first to make it a one goal game. That would be the closest the Red Wings would get.

The Panthers ended up winning 4-1. Petr Mrazek had a better game and actually kept the game from really getting out of hand. I know that I seem like a broken record but the defense has left a lot to be desired so far. Even though I think this team is making the playoffs, they won’t go far until they fix their defense.

Hopefully for the Red Wings, some home cooking gets them going. Also, returning home tonight to face the Ottawa Senators, in what is sure to be a festive atmosphere, it’s important for the Red Wings to get off to a fast start.

After just two games, the Red Wings have time to turn this season around. Petr Mrazek had a better game on Saturday but he still has to be better.

The Ottawa Senators on the other hand come into this game winners of their first two games. Kyle Turris leads the Senators with two goals and six other Senators have a goal. I make that point because Thomas Vanek has two goals and only three other Red Wings have a goal. THREE.

I’m not as worried about the offense though and I don’t think the other Red Wings fans should be worried either. The defense on the other hand……

The Red Wings want this final home opener to be special. As of this writing, the Red Wings haven’t announced a starter yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy Howard makes his first start tonight.

With all the festivities tonight I believe the Red Wings get their first win. Do you agree? Have a prediction for today’s game? Leave a comment below or check in with us on facebook or twitter.
