The Detroit Red Wings head back on the road tonight as they face the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Detroit Red Wings have rebounded after losing 9 of 11 games early in November. They have now won three of five but most importantly have gotten at least a point in five straight games.

Against the Florida Panthers on Thursday, the Red Wings got another point but lost in overtime. Henrik Zetterberg got the scoring started just over a minute into the game.

The Panthers would tie the game late in the first period when Jason Demers scored on Petr Mrazek. The game would stay like that until overtime. Aleksander Barkov beat Mrazek on a breakaway to give the Panthers the win.

While Mrazek was strong again, the Red Wings were doomed by their mistakes. Also, not scoring on four power plays didn’t help the Red Wings. With that said the Red Wings also went 6 for 6 on the penalty kill.

The Red Wings have now gotten points in five straight games which has put them right back in the playoff hunt. The Red Wings are now just two points out of third place.

It’s annoying that I’m happy that this team is fighting for third place but it is what it is. I know I sound like a broken record about this, but the Red Wings are a better team when they let the young guys play.

The best players for the Red Wings during this streak have been Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin, and Petr Mrazek. Notice a pattern with those three?

The Red Wings now head to Pittsburgh to face the defending Stanley Cup champions. The Penguins are second in the Metropolitan division. Pittsburgh has been really good at home and are led of course by, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and goalie Matt Murray.

Of course the Penguins rank in the top five in goals scored but surprisingly are in the bottom of the league in goals against. This game is definitely dangerous for the Red Wings who have had trouble scoring and with turnovers. I think all of us will be happy if this team can get a point tonight against the Penguins.
