The Detroit Red Wings return home tonight to face the red hot Columbus Blue Jackets. The Red Wings have won two straight games.

The Detroit Red Wings return home tonight after a successful three game road trip. The Red Wings won two of the three and are coming off arguably their best win of the season on Tuesday.

Surprisingly, it was the Red Wings who came back from a deficit. The Winnipeg Jets led 3-1 after one but the Red Wings fought back to tie it in the 2nd. The game would end up going to a shootout which the Red Wings would win. Believe it or not the Red Wings are unbeaten this season in the shootout.

This was a huge win for the Red Wings as it helped them to keep pace in the playoff race and also how they came back and won the game. We’ve been accustomed to seeing the Red Wings being the team to blow the lead so it was good to see the opposite happen.

Tonight the Red Wings welcome the surprising Columbus Blue Jackets to town. The Blue Jackets have the fewest losses in the league and also have given up the fewest goals in the East. Columbus also has the best power play in the league at 24.6 percent and they’ve also won five of their last six games.

A big reason why the Blue Jackets are rolling is because of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. He has a 2.03 GAA and a .930 save percentage.

The Red Wings have their own good news. Andreas Athanasiou and Jimmy Howard return tonight although it’s unclear as of this writing if Howard starts tonight. It’s important that the Red Wings are getting healthy because tonight they start their longest home stand of the season.

The Red Wings play five straight at Joe Louis Arena. Detroit has struggled at the Joe recently, after winning their first four home games the Red Wings have gone 2-6-2 since. Detroit desperately needs to turn things around at the Joe in these five games. It all starts tonight for them.
