Michigan State Basketball Fails To Complete Comeback At Indiana

The Michigan State Spartans lost their second straight game on the road on Saturday, losing 82-75 to the Indiana Hoosiers at Assembly Hall.

The Michigan State Spartans (12-8, 4-3) dropped their second consecutive conference game on Saturday, losing to the Indiana Hoosiers (14-6, 4-3) 82-75 in Bloomington as James Blackmon Jr. had a career night for the Hoosiers.

Blackmon scored 10 points in eight minutes as the Hoosiers jumped out to a quick 20-10 lead early in the first half. The Hoosiers made their first six three-point attempts and held a double-digit lead for most of the half, going to the break with a 44-30 lead. The Spartans’ issues at the point continued as point guards Lourawls Nairn Jr. and Cassius Winston combined for just three points and no assists in the half.

Indiana extended their lead to 20 early in the second half, but a 17-4 Michigan State run trimmed the lead to 63-56 with 8:52 left. The Spartans took the deficit all the way down to four, 69-65, with under five minutes left in the game, but could not get the stops the needed to complete the comeback, as Indiana scored points on seven of their last eight possessions, holding on to win 82-75.

Miles Bridges picked up his first double-double since his return to action, scoring 13 points and leading Michigan State with ten rebounds. Eron Harris was the Spartans’ leading scorer with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including three of four three-point attempts. The Spartans shot the ball effectively from beyond the arc (8/18, 44.4%), but failed to get stops on defense, only blocking two shots and picking two steals while Indiana grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.

James Blackmon Jr. led all scorers and tied a career high with 33 points. Blackmon converted six of ten three-point attempts and shot 11 of 16 from the floor overall. Robert Johnson added 17 as the Hoosiers shot 29 of 59 (49.2%) from the floor and 11 of 24 (45.8%) from beyond the arc. Indiana was without sophomore NBA prospect OG Anunoby, who will have surgery after suffering a knee injury on Wednesday, but was able to maintain production without him as three Hoosiers scored in double-digits and five picked up four or more rebounds.

The Spartans will host the #21 Purdue Boilermakers on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
