The Detroit Red Wings shipped under used forward Tomas Jurco to the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday for a third round pick. What other moves will they make?

The Detroit Red Wings made the first of what could be a few trades for them. Yesterday they traded Tomas Jurco to the Blackhawks for a third round pick.

The fact that the Red Wings got anything for Jurco at all shocked me. Jurco has seemingly fallen out of favor with this team and has barely played the last couple seasons.

When he does play, he hasn’t been productive. He only scored 15 goals in his short time with the Red Wings and this season in 16 games, Jurco has zero points.

So once again I’m shocked that the Red Wings got anything for him. The Red Wings now have nine draft picks in this draft.

As of right now, I like this move for both teams. The Red Wings get a third round pick for a player that they didn’t play. The Blackhawks also get a 24-year old forward who could end up paying a major dividend if he can turn things around.

With the Red Wings moving on from Jurco, the question now becomes what’s next for the Red Wings. This trade most likely won’t be the only move the Red Wings make between today and Wednesday’s deadline. With the Red Wings off until Tuesday and ten points out of a playoff spot, the Red Wings are definitely going to be sellers on Wednesday.

Thomas Vanek is rumored to be traded, Brendan Smith is also rumored to be moved. You also have to figure the Red Wings could listen to offers on defensemen Mike Green. If the Red Wings can get anything for those three players then they need to make those trades. Their focus has to be on the future of this team instead of the last 20 games.
