The Michigan State Spartans pulled off a big conference win on Sunday, downing the #16 Wisconsin Badgers 84-74 at home on Senior Day.

The Michigan State Spartans (18-11, 10-6) may be off the bubble after beating the #16 Wisconsin Badgers (22-7, 11-5) 84-74 on Senior Day on Sunday.

The Spartans got off to a slow start, falling behind 8-2, before outscoring Wisconsin 32-13 over the next 10:17, led by Nick Ward‘s 13 first-half points, to take a 34-21 lead. Due to foul trouble, Ward sat on the bench as the half wound down, and Wisconsin made the most of their height advantage in the paint, ending the half on a 14-2 run to trim the deficit to 38-37 at halftime.

The Badgers were unable to take the lead in the second half as Michigan State quickly increased the lead to five and held it the rest of the way. An 11-1 run put the Spartans ahead 63-51 midway through the second half and they led by as many as 13. With the final seconds winding down and the Spartans comfortably in the lead, senior Eron Harris, out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, checked into the game and kissed the Michigan State logo at midcourt as time expired on an 84-74 Michigan State win.

Ward led the Spartans with 22 points and nine rebounds despite playing only 19 minutes due to foul trouble. Miles Bridges scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Matt McQuaid scored 15 off the bench and Cassius Winston had ten points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

The Spartans had one of their best games of the season from the free throw line, making 21 of 23 (91.3%) attempts, while Wisconsin made 13 of 25 (52%). Michigan State outrebounded Wisconsin as well, 42 to 38.

Wisconsin was led by Nigel Hayes‘ 22 points. Bronson Koenig scored 17 and Zak Showalter added 15. The Badgers made only five of their 18 three-point attempts (27.8%).
