This edition of Detroit Tigers news explores a name change for third baseman Nick Castellanos.

The Detroit Tigers third baseman heretofore referred to as Nick Castellanos has apparently requested that he wants to be called Nicholas from now on. Here’s Chris McCosky of the Detroit News:

"Nick Castellanos has informed the Tigers media relations staff that he wants to be announced as, and referred to in programs and rosters, as Nicholas. Castellanos wasn’t available to explain why, or whether he wants it to be Nicholas in print media, as well."

This isn’t exactly like when Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton switched from his middle name of Mike (Michael), but it is always interesting when a player corrects their name preference or pronunciation after several years with a team.

Now all we need is confirmation on whether he wants the double ‘L’ in his last name pronounced in the Spanish fashion (an English ‘y’ sound) or if he prefers the Americanized pronunciation. People around the team seem to say it both ways.
