The NHL Draft wrapped up yesterday and the Red Wings made ten selections. Here is a recap of the selections the Red Wings made this weekend.

The Detroit Red Wings finished up the NHL Draft yesterday and all eleven picks had a theme. Size was definitely the theme for the Red Wings during the NHL Draft.

After drafting 6’6″ Michael Rasmussen on Friday night with the ninth pick, the Red Wings would add even more size on Saturday. Of the ten picks on Saturday, the Red Wings drafted nine players that are six foot or taller. Also for people like me that wanted the Red Wings to draft defense, we got our wish.

Gustav Lindstrom, the Red Wings second round pick is a defenseman. The Red Wings would end up drafting four more defensemen during the rest of the draft.

Only time will tell how many of these players drafted by the Red Wings, end up making the team eventually.

The reaction on the Red Wings draft is mixed to say the least. Winging it in Motown gave the Red Wings a D-.  Bleacher Report thought the draft was better for the Red Wings and gave them a B+. They also called Michael Rasmussen the most powerful player of the draft. ESPN liked the Red Wings draft also as they gave it a B-.

Rasmussen and Lindstrom should be very good or else the Red Wings scouts aren’t doing a good job. The real crapshoots are picks in the third to seventh rounds.

The Red Wings got lucky with late picks like Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg becoming stars. Can they get lucky again with some of these late round picks?

I gave the Red Wings a B on this draft. The Red Wings drafted several defensemen and drafted for size. Both of which they have desperately needed for years. How would you grade the Red Wings draft? Let us know below!
