On July 31 as I was watching the Detroit Tigers play the Chicago White Sox and I heard Rod Allen say the Detroit Tigers had traded for David Price my mouth dropped.  David Dombrowski is definitely not afraid to pull the big deal.

The Detroit Tigers now have arguably the best starting rotation in baseball.  They have the last 3 Cy Young award winners in the American League, Justin Verlander in 2011, David Price in 2012 and Max Scherzer in 2013.  While David Price is an improvement over Drew Smyly the trade  did not solve the bullpen issue or  fix their offensive struggles.

More from Detroit Tigers

Dave Dombrowski said that you do not get a player like David Price in a trade for minor league players, you need to trade major league quality players.  Austin Jackson had an incredible month in July and was looking like he finally coming out of his slump.  Drew Smyly is still learning how to be a starting pitcher in the majors, and while Willy Adames is an 18-year-old prospect.

So now the Tigers rotation is Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, David Price, Anibal Sanchez, and Rick Porcello,  that is a very good rotation.  No matter when you face the Detroit Tigers you are going to face some of the best starting pitchers in baseball.  As long as the back-end of the bullpen gets there act together we could do very well in the playoffs.

Dave Dombrowski is not afraid to pull the trigger if he feels the deal will improve his team, that is a plus for a general manager.  I am in favor of this trade because not only is David Price signed for next year, if they lose Max Scherzer to free agency they can offer that money to Price thus keeping their rotation strong.  Hopefully this deal will put them over in the playoffs and finally bring us that parade down Woodward we have been waiting 30 years for.
