Last week an interesting one if you were trying to run the table on your NFL and College Football picks.  Someone would have needed a crystal ball in order to pick some of the upsets that occurred.

The Detroit Jock City Staff didn’t have a crystal ball but we still got some of the upsets right.  Our staff picked Virgina Tech over Ohio State and Central Michigan over Purdue.

Here is a look at the overall records for the staff members picking this week.

Michigan has a tricky game at home.  The Wolverines have to cover a huge spread and that might be tough if the team experiences a hangover for the beating they took at the hands of Notre Dame.

Central Michigan also at home for a rare FBS non-conference clash with Syracuse.  This game is winnable for the Chippewas who put on a show at Purdue.  Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan both hit the road this weekend.

Fans of the MAC conference may be dreaming of another couple of upsets but not likely as the Eagles and Broncos are two of the worst teams in the MAC.

The Detroit Lions are a road dog against the Panthers. Can the new look Detroit offense move the ball against a quality NFL defense?

Here is how our staff picks the games for this weekend.

Locks and Upsets for the Week

Locks of the Week

Michigan-31 over Miami Ohio

Michigan came into South Bend last Saturday with an abundance of confidence and left South Bend with their heads bowed down to avoid embarrassment. Now, they’re back in Ann Arbor to face a team that’s lost 13 games in a row over the past two season. Look for the Wolverines to exact vengeance at the Big House.

Notre Dame -28 over Purdue

Following their lopsided victory over Michigan on Saturday, the Irish host their instate Big Ten rival in the third week one. The Boilermakers are coming off of an upset defeat against Central Michigan in front of the home crowd. If Purdue can’t win their tune-up games, then there’s no way that they can cover the spread against the No. 11 ranked team in the country.

Upset of the Week

Detroit +2.5 over Carolina

Cam Newton has already lit the match this week by calling defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, “Donkey Kong.” Look for Suh and the Lions to exact revenge by planting the former national champion and Carolina through the turf.

Locks of the Week

Arizona State -16 over Colorado

Colorado was embarrassed at home by in-state rival Colorado State. They then went on the road for a game against MAC cellar dweller UMass and barely escaped with a win.  The Sun Devils running attack with DJ Foster leading the way is going to be too much for the Buffaloes.  Arizona State wins this game by three touchdowns.

Virgina Tech -10 over East Carolina

The win over Ohio State may have been termed an upset but the Hokies are for real.  Now the return home to face East Carolina who got manhandled by #21 South Carolina last week.  The Hokies defense held down the Buckeyes and should be able to do the same to the Pirates at home. The Hokies will continue their climb up the AP poll with a convincing win over East Carolina.

Upset of the Week

Central Michigan +7 over Syracuse

I picked Central to upset Purdue last week so I will stay will the Chips this week to cover the spread against the Orangeman.  The Chips could win this game outright behind their re-energized running game. Syracuse is coming off a bye week after escaping Villanova with a win.

Lock Of The Week

Oklahoma -22 over Tennessee

Upset of the Week

Virgina + 7 over Louisville
