Don’t ring the alarms or start-up the worry wort train, the Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias, is okay and is not going to miss anytime, however, he did leave todays exhibition game early due to what the team is calling a shin contusion.

Now understanding a contusion is pretty easy. There are two types, basically bad ones which are usually called intramuscular and not so bad ones which are usually called intermuscular, or as we like to call them bruises or bumps. Intermuscular contusions usually heal quickly and is more than likely what Iglesias has after sliding into a base awkwardly.

Iglesias is coming off not playing for an entire season due to fractures in both of his shins and is looking to play in his first full season since 2013. While talking to media Iglesias voiced his frustration with himself about the recent injury to his shin.

"“I’m really mad about the slide at second, I just slide late and I hit the base with my leg unfortunately. It was a little sore.”"

By reports it seems that Iglesias will be back in the lineup on Sunday, he has yet to play back to back games yet this season, however coming off the injury that he is, that makes sense for him. However this is where the Detroit Tigers have to be careful with how they deal with Iglesias and any injuries he suffers with his legs.

“Tomorrow I’m going to be able to practice and do everything, I’m just bruised right there. Hopefully play Sunday at home.”

Even though this seems to be a small injury for the shortstop it is also an injury to a leg that at one time had terrible shin splints and cost him an entire season. Small injuries like this for him become more and more important to take care of and to heal properly if he doesn’t want the shin splints to return.

Iglesias himself also told media that he planned on doing everything tomorrow while practicing with the team. “Tomorrow I’m going to be able to practice and do everything, I’m just bruised right there. Hopefully play Sunday at home.”

Some good to take away from this is that Iglesias seems to feel fine and it more than likely that this is probably just a simple bruise. Yet, being a little over cautious with him seems like a good idea this early in spring training.

If he gets this injury a week before the team headed up to Detroit, then yeah this may not be such a big deal because he had the time to play on his legs and then he wouldn’t have to worry as much about it.

What do you think of this injury? Is this just a simple bruise that in the end will mean absolutely nothing? Or is this an injury that the team and Iglesias himself should be more worried or cautious about?
