The Michigan State Spartans begin a five-game December home stretch on Saturday when they host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.

The Michigan State Spartans (4-4) will be looking for a reprieve when they take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (1-6) on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles are off to a slow start in 2016, defeating only Division II Rogers State. Their only matchups with major conference opponents have been in their season opener against Baylor, which defeated Michigan State last week, and against Ole Miss, which Oral Roberts took to overtime before losing.

Oral Roberts is led by a trio of playmakers; center Albert Owens, who leads Oral Roberts in scoring with 16.5 points per game; forward Emmanuel Nzekwesi, who averages 11.1 points and 9.6 rebounds and senior guard Jalen Bradley, who averages 10.3 points and 4.6 assists.

Michigan State will be without its most productive player, freshman Miles Bridges, who will miss the next couple of weeks with an ankle injury. Bridges leads the Spartans in scoring (16.6 points per game), rebounding (8.8) and turnovers (3.4).

With Michigan State already shorthanded in the paint due to injuries to Ben Carter and Gavin Schilling, it seems likely that freshman Nick Ward, who averages 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in under 16 minutes per game, will need to see more playing time despite his propensity for foul trouble. The Spartans will also rely on former walk-on Kenny Goins, who averages 4.6 rebounds per game and senior Eron Harris, who averages 12.9 points and 3.6 rebounds.
