The Detroit Lions filled Quandre Diggs’ place on the roster on Tuesday, signing cornerback Asa Jackson off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.

The Detroit Lions added a cornerback on Tuesday in the wake of Quandre Diggsseason-ending pectoral injury, signing Asa Jackson off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network initially reported the signing.

Jackson was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round in 2012 out of California Polytechnic State, where he was a four-year starter. He stands 5’10,” weighs 193 pounds and ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at the 2012 NFL Combine. He has some strength and quickness, but is a little undersized.

Since being drafted, Jackson has bounced around the league, mostly on practice squads. He has spent most of his time in Baltimore, playing three separate stints with the Ravens, the only team for whom he has appeared on the 53-man roster and where current Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin was a defensive backs coach from 2011-2013. He played in 18 games for the Ravens from 2012-2015, including six starts, and logged 22 tackles and three passes defended. He won Super Bowl XLVII with the team in 2013.

Jackson was most recently on the Ravens’ active roster on Nov. 15, although he has not played in a game this season. He was released by the Ravens on the 26th and re-signed to their practice squad.

Jackson was suspended twice by the NFL, once in 2012 and once in 2013 for a total of 12 games, for taking Adderall, which was prescribed to him for attention-deficit disorder. In 2013, he acquired a therapeutic use exemption to take the medication.

The Lions are suddenly shorthanded at cornerback after the injury to Diggs, which he suffered on Sunday in a win over the New Orleans Saints. The Lions had recently released cornerback Johnthan Banks, who has since been signed by the Chicago Bears. After starters Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson, the Lions only feature UDFA Adarius Barnes, special teamer Johnson Bademosi and Jackson on the 53-man roster, although safeties Rafael Bush, Don Carey and rookie Miles Killebrew can all play corner as well.
