Michigan Football: Jabrill Peppers wins the 2016 Hornung Award

The Paul Hornung Award is given to college footballs most versatile player. After being a finalist in 2015, Michgan’s Jabrill Peppers takes home the award in 2016.

Michgan‘s Jabrill Peppers has taken home his first NCAA post-season college football award.

The Hornung Award recognizes and rewards players who exemplify versatility at a high-level of performance. Peppers was routinely featured at Michigan, seeing snaps in the all three phases on the football field. He played on nearly 1,000 snaps this season, seeing time at 15 different positions.

Michigan’s website MGoBlue.com had official statements from head coach Jim Harbaugh:

"“Jabrill loves competition and has a relentless desire to be great,” said Jim Harbaugh, U-M’s J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. “We are honored that Jabrill has been selected as the Paul Hornung Award winner, an achievement fitting of his versatility on the football field. Jabrill is explosive, aggressive, intelligent and plays the game with great enthusiasm. He has always wanted what is best for the team and has been willing to accept any role that is asked of him. We are very proud of this achievement.”"

and Jabrill Peppers:

"“It means a lot to me to win this award,” said Jabrill. “You definitely want to do as much as possible, and you want to do it as well as you can. I think there are a lot of guys who could have won this award, so it’s just a tremendous honor to be the winner and to represent the Paul Hornung Award. I’m just going to keep to trying to get better, keep working on my faults and do whatever I have to do to help my team.”"

Big Ten Awards

Peppers has already won several Big Ten awards including being a 1st team All-Big Ten team selection, Defensive Player of the Year, Linebacker of the Year and Special Teams Player of the Year.

Awards he’s still be considered for

Peppers is one of five finalists for the Heisman Trophy which will be awarded this Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 8:00 pm on ESPN.

Peppers is also one of three finalists for the Maxwell Award (college football’s player of the year) and Chuck Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year). Both award winners will be announced Thursday December 8, 2016, at 7:00 on ESPN.

Peppers was also a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Award (defensive player of the year) but Alabama’s defensive lineman Jonathan Allen won the award over the weekend.
