The Detroit Lions will unveil their new uniforms on April 13 at the annual season ticket member summit but they may have accidentally leaked early.

Official invitations for Detroit Lions season ticket members to reserve their spot at the event that will include the new uniform unveil went out yesterday. The invitation email included a photo header with heavily shadowed images of four players but what was probably intended as a teaser may have actually been a leak.

An enhancement of the image hit twitter revealing some of the uniform details.

On the far left is Marvin Jones wearing what is likely the new typical road uniform. To his right is Matthew Stafford in what looks like an updated throwback. Then comes Ziggy Ansah in the new regular home uniform. Lastly is Sam Martin in a second alternate, which may be a Color Rush design.

Some bullet point thoughts on what details can be seen in the enhanced image.

  • We knew there would be some changes to the helmet with black being removed from the color scheme. The Lions had blue facemasks prior to adding black to the color scheme, but gray before that and it looks it is gray facemasks that will be returning.
  • I wasn’t a big fan of the previous helmet stripe but like what can be seen here. The wider middle stripe adds definition that was lost in the previous helmet stripe that was too busy with thin lines.
  • The new home and road uniforms don’t look like they will be drastic changes from the previous versions, which isn’t a bad thing. The biggest change appears to be the addition of the new wordmark to the shoulder, and a corresponding change in font to the numbers.
  • While the updates don’t look drastic, we don’t get a good look from the waist down so there could be some hidden surprises.
  • The throwback looks much like the home uniform without the shoulder stripes and wordmark.
  • The second alternate/Color Rush appears to be a color inversion of the home uniform, swapping blue for gray and gray for blue. This would seem to suggest the Lions will be sticking with gray/silver as their primary pant color.
  • There is no sign of the WCF patch the Lions have worn since the passing of William Clay Ford. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean the patch has been retired, but if the team really considered it part of the uniform, it would seem an odd omission.

It’s not a total look but this turns out to be more than the Lions were intending to reveal. What do you think about what can be seen so far?
