The Detroit Tigers will try to salvage a series win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon after dropping the first two games at Tropicana Field.

The Tigers took a 7-6 lead into the ninth inning on Wednesday night but couldn’t shut the door. Closer Francisco Rodriguez came into the game and allowed a walk and a double to the first two hitters. An intentional walk loaded the bases with nobody out in the inning.

With his back against the wall, Rodriguez struck out the next batter on a 3-2 pitch for the first out of the inning. Needing a ground ball to get out of the inning and win the game, Rodriguez induced a bouncing ball to second base. Ian Kinsler snagged it and threw to shortstop Jose Iglesias who stumbled over second base and threw wildly past first base. Two runs scored and the Rays won the game.

The Tigers will send Daniel Norris to the mound on Thursday as they try to wash away yesterday’s disappointment. The Rays will counter with Erasmo Ramirez.
