The Detroit Tigers Starting Pitchers……A woman’s perspective

This is a guest post by Christine Huber the biggest Tigers fans the DJC staff could find…It’s morning and my first thought is not what I am going to have for breakfast, or what tasks I must complete today. It is about baseball. More importantly it is about who the Detroit Tigers have as their starting pitcher for the day. Now it is not for the reasons that most people think about. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good pitching matchup, and I truly believe that great pitching wins a game more than the bats, but my reason is that I find the pitchers for the Tigers completely adorable. Each one is different, but totally amazing, and I have to be careful not to drool as I watch. It also helps to get me through all these losses that keep building up, and as you all know it’s getting pretty dismal.

So let’s start talking about these pitchers. I’m not going to go on about the different ways they throw the ball, who has a better grip, who gets more strikeouts, who walks more batters, or anything else that is technical towards the game. This is just my personal view as they take the mound for that first pitch.

Doug Fister…right now I am a little heartbroken because he is on the DL. When he joined the Tigers last year, I immediately fell head over heals for him. His tall lanky 6’8 body, looking down on the player that will be batting, with that deep intensity that his dark brown eyes hold. The precision of his pitches, fast and quick, just amazes me, if he needs anyone to nurse him back to health, I will happily volunteer!

Justin Verlander…ah, where to start with the great one? His half smirk makes me swoon. Just like Flynn Rider in the Disney movie “Tangled” he brings on the smolder. He is not afraid to show when he is aggravated about a play, often forgetting to cover his mouth before he throws a few curse words out there, and when his teammates save a play his excitement shines through with a smile that makes me weak in the knees. He takes every game seriously and you can tell he doesn’t just shrug off his losses. He is playing to win. I wish this could be said about his team.

Drew Smyly…the rookie. With his cute baby face and confidence I am sold. I was amazed at the way he didn’t let those darn Yankees intimidate him and he got the win. He doesn’t get riled up and I find that very alluring. He I cool, calm and collect at all times on the mound. He is quickly becoming one of my faves.

Max Scherzer…sigh, Maxi! If you have not stared adoringly into that mans eyes when he is giving an interview, then you don’t know what you are missing. Sometimes all I hear is “blah, blah, blah, I threw the ball” because I am checking out his cool eyes. For those of you who don’t know, one is brown and one is blue. I find it absolutely breathtaking to look at. He gives me this feeling that he would be great to have a drink with(pick me! pick me!) and then snuggle with later. I get weak in the knees just thinking about it.

Rick Porcello…he is one of those players I find much cuter with his baseball cap on. He is almost to pretty to play baseball, with his “Gossip Girl” looks. Sometimes he pitches well, and sometimes it’s so bad I find myself making excuses for his rough outings because he is so beautiful. So many people moan and groan on his days to pitch, but he knows what he’s doing. He just needs to concentrate, and execute his throws. He looks so good doing it though…oops! There I go trying to shake off his mistakes!
