Like we needed another reason to hate ESPN. The four letter network recently did a power ranking of professional sport team uniforms. The Detroit Lions scored particularly low 26th out of the 32 NFL teams and 108th of the 122 uniforms they included in their rankings. Are they freaking kidding me? The Detroit Lions have worse uniforms than the Cleveland Browns? REALLY? One spot worse than the Washington Capitals and two spots worse that the Los Angels Clippers to quote Rob Parker, “COME ON!!!”
The simple fact here is the Lions don’t get enough credit for their logo redesign of a few years ago. The main complaint of ESPN was that the logo and numbers are still outlined in black (something Matt “the idiot” Millen brought to town). However, even though the black outlining was brought o Detroit by the worse GM in the history of professional sports, black outlining does not a bad logo make.
In fact, I really dig the new Detroit Lions logo, especially the new script logo. I have always loved their colors for a long time, come on ESPN it’s a signature look, honolulu blue and silver, you see those colors and you think of the Lions, hey four letter network that is called branding……IDIOTS!!
There are a lot of bad uniforms out there, especially n the college ranks. However I can think of several uniforms I dislike (personally speaking of course) over the Lions (granted my office is decorated in honolulu blue and silver so I’m totally biased in this opinion). The Browns for sure, and ESPN loves the Chicago Bears colors, but come on. That looks is played out. They also give big negatives to the teams of the 1990’s and all that teal for the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Seems odd that the black and silver of the Oakland Raiders rank fourth, if the four letter network hates black so much I would think the teams with predominately black jersey would rank far lower. The Pittsburgh Steelers rank third, but at least the New Orleans Saints are 22nd. It seems that since the Bears were first (questionably), and the Green Bay Packers were second the powers that be over at the four letter network felt the need to arbitrarily and artificially dropped the other two teams in the NFC North. The Minnesota Vikings were ranked second worst, but even that reasoning is convoluted.
Since this is just conjecture and opinion, and since my ranking would not carry the weight of a four letter network byline, I will simply say the Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, the blue Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New York Giants, and the Seattle Seahawks all have worse uniforms than the honolulu blue and silver of our Detroit Lions. Of course all of this is simply personal preference.
