Detroit Lions game one preview, where to watch, listen, and react

The NFL regular season kicked off tonight, and before we know it we will be filing down to Ford Field to see our Detroit Lions start the 2012 season against the St. Louis Rams. This feels like a trap game to me. The Lions should be able to handle a Rams team still searching for an identity, but I still remember the Arizona Cardinals coming to Detroit and burning up a Lions secondary. That is the fear for now, will Sam Bradford come out and torch the Lions, and a secondary no one is sure about.

The last time this two teams played the Lions beat the Rams soundly 44-6. That was two full seasons ago and many things have changed. The Rams aren’t as good as they were then, and the defensive secondary of the Lions may be worse. We will have to wait and see on that one.

The will be the fourth season in a row Matthew Stafford has been the starting QB for the Lions. Stafford set franchise record last year for yards, touchdowns, passer rating and attempts. He joined Drew Breeze and Dan Marino as the only three NFL QB’s to pass for more than 5,000 yards and 40 TD’s in any one season.

Looking over the early injury reports Safety Louis Delmas and Corner Chris Houston did not practice today, and that is very concerning. However we need to see how this revamped secondary gels together. They may be a whole lot better than the sum of their parts, and only going into NFL battle will settle that argument.

For those of us who are not luck enough to have a reserved seat in Ford Field for this game, this is where the game came be found through various media outlets. Fox (Detroit Channel 2) will broadcast the game live on regular TV beginning at 1PM. Chris Myers and Tim Ryan will be the commentators, with Jamie Maggio as the sideline reporter. Sirius Channel 138 (for Rams fans) and 94 (for Lions fans) and XM channel 227 will also broadcast the game. Detroit Radio will also have the game live on 97.1FM The Ticket. Of course the staff of Detroit Jock City welcomes all comments, fan rants, and sure celebration if anyone feels the need to comment during the game.

From the fine folks at The Sporting News:

"Jeff Fisher returns to the sideline against his former Titans defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and the Lions’ passing game present a big problem for former Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan and the Rams’ new-look defense. Sam Bradford, taken No. 1 overall in 2010 (a year after Stafford), has much work to do to reach Stafford’s level. Facing Ndamukong Suh—the No. 2 overall pick in 2010—won’t help matters in Week 1. Prediction: Lions 33, Rams 13"

DJC will also go out and predict a Lions win, but we think he may be a little closer than that.
