This trade was necessary because of the pending suspension of Jhonny Peralta. But also because Dave Dombrowski has not developed a good minor league system. His love affair with power pitchers has negatively effected the Tigers minor league system. Mr. Dombrowski has routinely drafted pitchers over positional players. He is great at making trades to cover up holes in the Tigers lineup. The problem is he has created most of the holes he is trying to cover up. After trading for Iglesias we have one prospect who is even close to being in the major leagues.
Tim Kurkjian was complaining that the trade deadline in Major League Baseball was lame because all of the General Mangers have decided that building from the minor leagues up is the best way to go, Mr. Dombrowski must have missed that memo. Look at this years draft nine of the first ten picks were pitchers, and twenty-five of the forty picks were. When your drafting mostly pitchers how can you develop positional players? He is able to fix the holes by trading prospects but he then creates more holes then he fixes. There policy of win now is fine, if you actually win now. Getting to the World Series twice in seven years is great, getting beat down in those World Series not so much. He has mortgaged this teams future and is not getting results. He has been here since 2002 and in twelve years, not counting this year, we have two division titles, two American League Championships, one wild card spot, three playoff appearances, two World Series losses, and eight non playoff appearances. The Tigers have had the highest payroll in this division since 2007 and the best team on paper. Dombrowski and Leyland have had every opportunity to win the World Series, they have also changed the Tigers roster over since 2006. There is one player left from 2006 and that is Justin Verlander, every other player has either left or gone and come back. Next year will be the Thirty year anniversary of the 1984 World Series Champions, the last time this team was home grown. Hopefully they as a team will put it together and give us something besides memories to celebrate.
