This a lions game we will be talking about for a long time.  The Detroit Lions, who usually lose games on crazy last-minute plays, flipped the script on the Dallas Cowboys with a surprise quarterback sneak with 12 seconds to play.

After leading the team in an 80 yard drive in 50 seconds, Stafford and the Lions found themselves on the 1/2 yard line following a Calvin Johnson reception.  with the clock ticking Stafford was rushing the offense to the line signaling that he was going to call a spike play. When the ball was snapped Stafford lunged forward breaking the plane of the goal line much to the surprise of a sold out Ford Field and his teammates. The sneak gave the Lions a 31-30 win after the extra point.

Matthew Stafford was asked after the game if the QB sneak was his call.

"ya it was my call…I’ll take that on my shoulders, if we don’t make it we lose."

With exception of one bad pass that was intercepted by Dallas Safety Shawn Lee, Stafford was brilliant, throwing the ball with laser like accuracy passing for 488 yards and a touchdown. He did throw another inception but it resulted from a Calvin Johnson tip into the hands of the Dallas defenders.

Stafford benefited form a record-setting day by Calvin Johnson.  Johnson caught 14 passes for 329 yards setting a Detroit Lions franchise record for receiving yards in a game.  He also notched his 5th 200 yard receiving game of his career, tieing another all time NFL record.

Just by reading those stats a fan could probably assume a Lions blow-out victory. But the Lions committed 4 turnovers three of them by their offensive stars. The turnovers made it necessary for the Lions to win with a last second comeback.

The win makes the Lions only the second team in NFL history to over come a -4 turnover margin to win a game.  Head Coach Jim Schwartz was asked in a post game interview whether he was proud of that fact.

"I am proud of everything in a win."

It wasn’t all lucky for the Lions however as they may have lost WR Ryan Broyles to a season ending Achilles injury.
