Detroit Lions Draft Prospects – Top 5 Cornerbacks

The Detroit Lions have the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Some pundits believe the Lions greatest draft need this year is at the cornerback position. Luckily, the 2014 happens to be the deeper at corner than any other in recent memory. With 5 solid cover corners among the prospects chances are good the Lions will finally be able to shore up the corner position.

Although the Lions were respectable pass defenders last year, much of their success against the pass can be attributed to the front four. Snagging a corner in the draft would add depth at the position and be an insurance policy for the oft injured Chris Houston.

If a corner is what they want, the Detroit Lions certainly have a few options.  At #10 the Lions could easily grab Justin Gilbert or Darqueze Dennard. But with a draft rich at the corner like this, Martin Mayhew may be better served filling this need later in the draft. If the Lions are focused on the corner position a trade down could net them an additional pick to help fill holes at wide receiver, safety and linebacker.
