2014 NHL Draft: Detroit Red Wings First Round Draft Prospects
Alex Tuch
Position: Centre/RW Current Team: Boston College Date Of Birth: May 10 1996 Place of Birth: Baldwinsville, NY Height 6’4″ Weight 213 lbs. Shoots: Right
Every scouting report I read mentions the same thing first, his size, and how can you not? At 18 years old, this kid already has the physical makeup of your prototypical power forward, and it seems that he is well on his way to developing the skills necessary, as well.
Another aspect that has NHL scouts drooling, according to his MyNHLDraft.com scouting report, is his hockey IQ. This scouting report doesn’t just say he has a high hockey IQ, but that it was more like a genius-level hockey IQ. He is excellent at reading plays and seems to have a sixth sense with his line-mates, being able to seemingly find them and where they are going to be at any given moment.
“Tuch is a big power winger who skates well with strong balance. He typically is called upon to be the meat and potatoes guy on a skilled line and does so very effectively. Impressive forchecker. Uses his frame to protect the puck and physically supporting his linemates.“-Aaron Vickers – Future Considerations
There are other power forward players in this draft who have better skating than he does, so that could use some work.
But overall, Tuch is another budding power forward this draft has to offer. Teams are always looking for the next great big man. Tuch will likely go in the 17-26 range.
