Sonny Milano

Date of birth: 5/12/1996  Place of birth: Massapequa, New York  Ht: 5’11″   Wt: 185 lbs  Shoots: Left  Position: C/LW

Sonny Milano is a speedy winger whose been playing with the United States development team for the last two years.

He’s an impressive offensive forward with high hockey IQ and at his current level is an impressive goal scorer and playmaker.

Some scouts believe that Milano’s skills will carry over best to the NHL as a goal scorer rather than a playmaker. Nevertheless the talent is there.

Milano’s biggest issue is that his defensive work needs a lot of refining and consistency.

“Milano is our top ranked player from the US Under 18 team at this juncture, but it’s a perch that he’ll have no shortage of competition for. Checking in at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Milano can play centre or the wing and given his lack of size, it will be interesting to see what position he does ultimately find a home at. Milano’s game has a lot of parallels to fellow American Nick Schmaltz, as the U18 forward is a shifty player who can attack with his explosive skating and high-end offensive talent. Milano will be expected to be a key producer on the Under 18 team this season and early indications would show that he is in line to be exactly that.“-The Scouting Report

He has committed to Boston College and so will have a good few years on a good NCAA team to refine his game and to become more defensively aware.

Milano is probably the best offensive forward coming out of the USHL this season and will be taken in the top 20 of this draft. Maybe by Detroit?
