4. Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego Chargers

Ryan Matthews is high on a lot of people’s draft boards. He’s also an injury prone running back that is going to be splitting his carries with Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown.

Yes, Mathews was finally healthy last year, and had the best year of his career, rushing for over 1,200 yards, and playing in all 16 games, but this is probably the exception instead of the rule. Plus, Brown was second in the NFL in yards per carry last year (5.3), including 7.2 YPC on the road. Mathews is also the third-best RB receiver on his team behind Brown and Woodhead.

Also, although Mathews is probably going to be considered the “starter”, but there’s no telling which of the Chargers’ three backs will get the bulk of the carries as the season progresses.

It also doesn’t help that San Diego has the NFL’s fourth-toughest schedule.
