Rabid football fans got their appetite going with college footballs non-conference schedule last weekend. Now the action heats up even more as the NFL opens its season with a Thursday night clash between Green Bay and Seattle.
The Detroit Jock City Staff did pretty well picking games last week going a combined 36-4 with two of our staffers going 10-0! Here are the DJC staff records for our College and NFL Football Picks Week 1.

Now as the football season steps up so will the DJC staff. This week each staffer’s Lock of the Week will be against the spread! Each staffer will also pick an Upset of the Week.
Remember DJC picks each of the games for our Michigan teams in addition to games that have a national interest. The slate of games is selected by the editorial staff while each staffer selects their own lock and upset pick.

Lock of the Week: Florida Atlantic +40.5 over Alabama
Alabama is not as dominant as in years past. 40 1/2 points is too many to pass up.
Upset of the Week: Temple +3 over Navy
Navy could be experiencing a let down after leading Ohio State for a half last week only to lose.

Lock of The Week: Florida -38 over Eastern Michigan
The Eagles rushed for 292 yards on the ground last Saturday against Morgan State at home, but accomplishing the same feat on the road at Gainesville against an SEC powerhouse sounds nearly impossible. Last time these two teams faced off was back in 2004 when Florida completed 479 yards of total offense. Expect the same this week.
Upset of the Week: Michigan State + 11 1/2 over Oregon
Nate Williams
Lock of the Week: Pittsburgh -4 over Boston College
Pittsburgh destroyed Delaware in its season opener, 62-0. The Panthers enter Fridays game tied for first nationally in rushing touchdowns (seven), sixth in rushing yards (409) and 14th in yards per attempt (7.30).Furthermore, Pittsburgh only allowed Delaware 57 yards of total offense, came up with three interceptions and two sacks in a complete domination on both sides of the ball.
Pitt is as strong as steel in 2014. They’ll crush Boston College in this one.
Upset of the Week: Tennessee Titans +3 over Kansas City Chiefs

Lock of the Week: Western Kentucky +6 over Illinois
Western Kentucky blew out MAC powerhouse Bowling Green last week 59-31. Not only can Western Kentucky put up points they have a serviceable defense. Illinois struggled to score points in their home opener after losing quite a few offensive starters.
Upset of the Week: Central Michigan +3 over Purdue
Purdue gave up a ton of yards to a freshmen runner from Western last week. Central is featuring former Michigan running back Thomas Rawls who has something to prove to the Big Ten. Central’s defense should be just good enough to let to keep Rawls in the game while stunning Purdue at home.
