The Detroit Tigers starting pitching is the key to a long playoff run. After Dave Dombrowski traded Austin Jackson and Drew Smyly for David Price I thought they had solidified their starting pitching. Outside of Rick Porcello, the other starters have been inconsistent this year. Since the bullpen has been only occasionally good, the starting pitching needs to be great for the Tigers to win.
Justin Verlander despite not being 100 percent healthy all year, had his best start of the year yesterday when he went 7.1 innings with 1 earned run and 4 strike outs. Hopefully with 2 more games against Kansas City, and only a 1.5 game lead in the division, the other starters will take the challenge and perform up to their lofty standards.

The only way the Detroit Tigers make a long playoff run is if the starting pitching lives up to their promise. As they have proved the last 3 years their starting pitching can be as dominant as any in the history of Major League Baseball. Last year against the Oakland Athletics they put on a show that many had not seen in a while. This years team has the potential to do more of the same. It was fun watching the starting pitching dominate in the playoffs last year.

Considering they now have the last 3 American League Cy Young winners, there should be a lot of air coming from Coamerica Park for the rest of this month and into October with all the strike outs they are likely rack up. All of this gives the Tigers a great chance to win in October. Unlike the other 3 major sports, in Baseball the saying is “Starting Pitching wins Championships” and the Detroit Tigers will have the most experienced Starting Pitching in the playoffs.
I believe the Tigers will clinch the division here shortly and go onto do very well in October hopefully so well they finally have that parade down Woodward. The Starting Pitching is what is gonna take them there.
