It’s late September and the pennant chase is heating up. After taking two of three for the Royals last weekend, the team from Kansas City is back to their winning ways. The Royals have won 6 of 10 and are just one game back of the Tigers in the AL Central.

The Tigers magic number is down to five but it looks as if the division race will go down to the wire. That makes every game important including today’s series finale against the White Sox.
Justin Verlander takes the mound today in a must win game against Chicago White Sox Ace and Cy Young candidate Chris Sale. By looking at the season stats it would appear that beating Sale in a must win game is a tall order for the Tigers former ace. But Justin Verlander has been up to the task in September scoring two huge wins against Kansas City down the stretch.
That said the White Sox present a tough challenge for Justin Verlander. The southsiders have hit .298 with 2 HR and 10 RBI in 104 at-bats this season against the Tigers former Cy Young Award winner. Verlander will need the offense to click against Chris Sale to notch his 15th win of the season.
Offensive production has been an issue as of late for Detroit. The Tigers needed all nine innings to beat the White Sox last night winning in the bottom half with on a walk off single my Miguel Cabrera. Detroit big bats may have to conjure some late inning magic again as Chris Sale will likely bring his best game in pursuit of the American League Cy Young Award.
