Start ‘Em

Colin Kaepernick, QB, San Francisco 49ers

So, I’m guessing that it didn’t take long for you to question my logic? 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been anything but consistent in 2014 and has even struggled the previous few weeks.

I look for that to all change in week 14 when Kaep goes head-to-head with a bad Oakland Raiders defense.

To this point in the season, the Raiders defense is allowing an average of 20 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. I know it might be tough to have any confidence in the 9ers signal caller, but the streak of underwhelming games comes to an end this week.

Consider it a bit of a gamble or reach, but it is a move that should pay huge dividends to those willing to take the risk.

Frank Gore, RB, San Francisco 49ers

If you haven’t already noticed, we didn’t go far for the next player on our week 14 start ’em, sit ’em. Frank Gore has been the 49ers workhorse running back for the better part of a decade, and throughout 2014 signs of apparent wear and tear have begun to show.

Last week against a tough Seattle Seahawks defense, the former University of Miami Hurricane managed just 36 yards. Not a good performance for those who had Gore in their starting line ups.

However, like his San Fran teammate, I expect Gore to turn things around against Oakland. The Raiders run defense ranks a very unimpressive 27th overall and is giving up an average of 4.0 YPC to opposing running backs. As most of you all likely remember, the Raiders got obliterated 52-0 in St. Louis against the Rams. The two biggest reasons for the lop-sided outing?

  1. Rookie RB Tre Mason.
  2. A bad Raiders run D.

Mason racked up a total of 164 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 carries. Look for Gore to go over the 100 yard mark this week with a touchdown or two to go with it.
