The biggest reason for Newton’s success?
The success of Stewart.
With DeAngelo Williams out of the lineup in week 14, and Stewart finally healthy, he Panthers running back was able to flourish for the first time in 2014. Stewart ended the week as the third ranked runner of the week rushing for 155 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said Monday that Williams is “day-to-day” with a hand injury, but Rivera may want to consider focusing his efforts on Stewart.
Since 2008, with Williams out of the lineup, Stewart averages 17.6 touches for 92.8 total yards per game. If he can do that week in and week out, the Panthers will no longer be a one-dimensional team.
