The 2014 MLB Winter Meetings are officially underway in southern California and as many people may have guessed, the Detroit Tigers and Dave Dombrowski are all the buzz in San Diego. Monday was the first day of the annual meetings, but Dombrowski stated that he may have set a personal record when it comes to trade talks.

"“I think I had more conversations this year trade-wise coming into the winter meetings than I think I probably ever have,” Dombrowski said. “But when I say that, that doesn’t mean anything transpires.”"

A few short days ago, the Tigers solidified their bullpen as one of the best in baseball once again by acquiring starter Shane Greene from the New York Yankees. In return, Detroit sent Robbie Ray and prospect Domingo Leyba to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Were now a day and a half into the meetings and as time passes the Tigers rumors continue to run ramped.

"“I think a lot of that is that some free agents have signed, some other guys are out there, but clubs are anxious to make moves and address needs that they have,” he said. “So we’ve talked a lot. We’ve talked to clubs on the phones here. I would not tell you we are close to any deals at this time, but I would not have anticipated being at that point right now.“But things happen very quickly. There could be a phone call while you guys are sitting here and then that changes.”"

On Sunday the Tigers enjoyed a dinner in SoCal hosted by team manager, Brad Ausmus. On Monday evening, Tigers contingent met in a suite at the Manchester Grand Hyatt before breaking up and heading to the lobby to talk to personnel from other teams.

"“We really just kind of got started and rolling,” Dombrowski said while meeting with a small group of Detroit writers at 4 p.m. local time, 7 p.m. in Detroit. “We’ll get back together later on and kind of proceed there into the evening.”"

As of Tuesday afternoon things are still quiet at the MLB Winter Meetings, but I don’t expect them to stay that way for long. Dave Dombrowski hasn’t been afraid to make big moves in the past, and that’s something Tigers fans love about him. Keep your eyes and ears open for the next few days, because there is a good chance that business is about to pick up. Hopefully the outfield issues are addressed.
