You are named the 2013-14 Central Hockey League’s Player of the Year, you get drafted by a historically good team in the Detroit Red Wings and then you get to prospects camp and you fracture your tibia.

That is the story of Anthony Mathis.

Yet, the young player from  Longueuil hasn’t let the injury stop him. In 57 games last season with Val-d’Or of the QMJHL he put up 120 points.

Mathis is a prolific scorer and is a skater with good speed. He is 6′ 5” and 201 pounds, and he knows how to use his size to his advantage. He was criticized for his inconsistency at times early in junior hockey and is still one of the few faults against him.

This young player could be the next big star for the Detroit Red Wings, barring anymore major injuries.
