Terada: We’re on to Number 3! Who will be Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns.

Towns isn’t necessarily having the best season statistically as he’s averaging 8.5 PPG on 5.9 FGA. Towns though will still be drafted somewhere in the top-10 of the NBA draft. The reason being his versatile offensive game.

The one drawback of Towns in college is that he isn’t getting as much playing time as he needs due to Kentucky’s depth and superior talent.

In terms of the Pistons though in my opinion he may not be the best fit. Yes he’s young and has the potential to develop his offensive game with more touches but he is still a big man. Just like I mentioned with Turner unless a trade happens he might not even be able to get those touches in the NBA.

His talent is intriguing though. I wouldn’t have a problem with the Pistons drafting Towns as long as he’s guaranteed time on the court to develop alongside Drummond.

If both Towns and Drummond were on the same team with polished offensive games in 5 years though, the rest of the league better watch out.

  • Shah: When scouts look at Karl-Anthony Towns they will see a player with immense offensive potential and the ability to knock down a shot from just about anywhere on the court. Like I said about Turner a big game with a perimeter shot is valuable in offensive schemes in the NBA.

The most important part to Towns’ game is that he can be fed the ball in the post and go to work. He is similar to Okafor who has a solid skill set already in place. There is a reason that mock drafts have these two in the top 5. His ceiling is higher than Okafor’s solely because he can shoot it from everywhere.

His fit with the Pistons is what I actually like the most. Van Gundy in his Magic days thrived using Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu as stretch power forwards around Howard. With a foundation of Towns and Drummond (who many people compare to Howard) I love the potential.

Towns can act as a new breed of the stretch forward position because he has great hands, length, and hustle on defense and with rebounding. It’s his inside-out and overall offensive versatility that will ultimately lead him to a high draft pick.

The Pistons would be fortunate to land him. He has the drive and the IQ to succeed in the NBA.
