It is mid way through January and the Detroit Tigers still have yet to sign Max Scherzer. In fact it seems like, they may not sign Scherzer at all. General Manager Dave Dombrowski seems to think the team will not be resigning the 30-year-old right hand pitcher.

With every day that we creep closer to February it seems to look like Scherzer isn’t any closer to giving in and taking less money to sign a deal. It seems that he is standing strong in his want for 200 million dollar deal. So what does this really mean for the Tigers? Well, most likely that when the 2015 season starts in April, the starting rotation, won’t include Scherzer.

This Scherzer and Tigers saga is stressful in the least for fans of the team. You want to see your team go resign a guy that will help your team win games. When the window of them winning a World Series is closing with every passing game this year, you want a guy like Scherzer on your team.

However there has been so good new through the week The Tigers today avoided arbitration with pitcher David Price and signed him to a one-year $19.75 million contract. Which most feel that Price will be used as trading bait when the trade deadline pops its head up. Unless he has spectacular numbers and is leading pitchers in stats I don’t see Price being here much longer.

Price aside though, this Scherzer saga is starting to become a little worrisome in the way that the Tigers are looking to lose a better than good pitcher. I have stated before, I don’t think that Scherzer should be getting 200 million, I just don’t feel right giving him Clayton Kershaw money when he is not near Kershaw talent.

Yet, I still want him on my team. I wish Dombrowski would see that while he isn’t worth what he is asking, he is still worth a good chunk of money. While we don’t get to see the insides of trade deals and contract talks, I wish I could see Dombrowski and his guys in a meeting talking about Scherzer.

With the team showing no interest into signing Scherzer basically at all anymore must mean that either Max’s agent Scott Boras isn’t going to budge until last-minute and so the organization is just waiting around. Or, Dombrowski has convinced everyone else that Scherzer isn’t worth it anymore and so they are just going about their day and working on essentially more important things.

What is this team going to look like if when they come back up to Detroit without Max Scherzer in their starting rotation? What happens if some division rival some how finds $200 million to give him and he is with them? That probably won’t happen, but weirder things have happened before. I would like the team to get Max signed, not for $200 million dollars but $145-150 seems reasonable.

What do you guys think? Should the Detroit Tigers pursue Max Scherzer more? Risk it and just let him go somewhere else? Let us know below.
