It was a busy week in Detroit sports. Both the Red Wings and Pistons went on winning streaks. The Lions and Tigers continued their off seasons moving players around and losing some to other teams in the league.

Max Scherzer leaves Detroit Tigers for Washington Nationals

Detroit Tigers fans around the state of Michigan have been holding their breath all off-season waiting for right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer to sign with either the team. Many started to think that he wouldn’t be resigned until late into the off-season until late Tuesday night news broke that the 2013 Cy Young winner had signed a deal with the Washington Nationals.

After the numbers of his contract came out many fans felt betrayed by the pitcher while others wished him luck with his new team. It begged the question however if Scherzer was actually worth the $210 million dollars he is getting from his new deal.

Detroit Red Wings stay hot into All Star Break

The Detroit Red Wings are heading into the All Star break on a five game win streak and have been playing some of the best hockey in the league. They are sitting second in their division two games in front of the Montreal Canadiens. Head coach Mike Babcock himself has said that he is surprised with the play of the team this season.

No Red Wings will be going to the All Star game minus the injured goaltender Jimmy Howard. It will be interesting to see how Red Wings fans react to not having their team represented in the All Star game this year even though there is a rule that says all teams must be represented.

Dominic Raiola and Detroit Lions cut ties

The long career of Dominic Raiola as a Detroit Lion has come to an end as the team doesn’t plan to bring back the 13 year veteran. Raiola was drafted back in the 2001 NFL draft in the second round after playing his college football at Nebraska University.

With the Lions not resigning Raiola it is in ways a departure from the Lions and their losing ways. Raiola was at times a fan favorite and was one of the faces of the Detroit Lions through the hard years for the team until the eventual turnaround in the recent years. Raiola’s career was also filled with moments of not so greatness. He has had some moments of questionable play and has been at times considered a dirty player.

Raiola himself still wants to play and says that he thinks he can still play. Only time will tell if the veteran center will sign with a team as the off-season is right around the corner for  the NFL.

Brandon Jennings is having a season as Detroit Pistons continue their midseason turnaround

Detroit teams seem to have this plan to go on long winning streaks and stay hot. The Detroit Pistons got into their winning ways after waiving Josh Smith. During the winning ways Brandon Jennings has been shining for the team in their quest to make this season worth something.

The Detroit Pistons have managed to climb into the 4th spot in the Central division throughout this winning streak. They are also now only two spots out of the playoffs. The most interesting thing however, only one game separates the Pistons and the not team, but teams in front of them. If They continue to win and get some losses from divisional teams, they could be in the 8th or 7th playoff spot at the end of the month.

Detroit Sports will be calming down with the Red Wings on their All Star break. The Pistons will be the only team in action this weekend. Did we miss anything this week? Let us know below.
