Detroit Pistons need to do something differently

This week the Detroit Pistons picked up a lot of stories on the Detroit Jock City site this week. The team hasn’t looked as good as they were in late December. Many question if the team can make it the playoffs at the pace that they are playing. The Pistons are 13-10 since the start of the new year. They sit at 2.5 games out of a playoff spot behind the Brooklyn Nets.

Some think that the lack of defense is killing the Pistons playoffs hope. While others think that the team needs to trade for defense if they even want to make the playoffs. With the NBA trade deadline coming up in the following week the team might do something or maybe the all-star game this weekend will be the break the team needs.

Detroit Tigers get good news about Martinez

More from Detroit Jock City

Detroit Tigers fans all probably sighed in disappointment when the news broke that designated hitter Victor Martinez had torn his medial meniscus in his left knee during offseason workouts. Fans wondered what the Tigers would do in the wake of the news and wondered if they would go out a sign a big name player like they did the last time Martinez was injured in 2012.

However the Tigers and their fans can rest easier as Martinez surgery was highly successful and he is projected to be ready by the start of the regular season. However with Martinez sidelined until the start of the season, there is also the chance that the team will start without slugger Miguel Cabrera and so here is a look at what the team can do about his absence that doesn’t involve trading or signing anyone.

Detroit Lions offseason looks to be getting busy

More from Detroit Sports

You can’t go a week in Detroit sports news and not talk about the Detroit Lions. Their offseason has been filled with many questions about who they need to resign and who doesn’t come back for the next season. In a new turn of ideas, some think that the Lions have got to focus on offense this offseason to help them in the new season. Also following the offense state of mind, the production of quarterback Matthew Stafford was told it must be better if the Lions want to win.

A look at why the Lions should say a big old no to the free agency market was also talked about on Detroit Jock City. The free agency market isn’t very suitable for the Lions this offseason and it was suggested that they were better off not sinking their teeth too far into it.

Detroit Red Wings get a familiar face back

The Detroit Red Wings have been quietly going through the season as the team no one seems to really be noticing. Not many people saw them doing well this year, in fact many thought their making the playoff streak may end this year, but they are third in their division and have been staying relatively healthy through the season. The team lost goaltender Jimmy Howard about a month ago and many thought this would be the part where the team took a turn for the losing sides but they didn’t.

In fact Petr Mrazek, Howards back up played very well and helped the team stay afloat while Howard was out with an injury. Now that Howard is back the team has some tough choices to make about their goaltender situation. Do you keep Mrazek as the starter or does Howard come back as the starter. Which “back-up” goalie gets sent down to the Griffins in Grand Rapids? It was looked at a little here.

Like the NBA the NHL trade deadline is lurking around and it was suggested that maybe the Red Wings, who are never big buyers or sellers at the trade deadlines, could maybe use Mrazek as trade bait. It is an interesting idea because the 22 year-old goalie had a good showing and if you can find a team that really needs a goalie, they may be willing to give you either good young talent or some good veteran presence players, you take your choice.
