I was going to put Jordan Eberle from the Edmonton Oilers here but I don’t see why people think they are going to want to get rid of him. He was their first round pick and while they have had tons of number one picks, they still aren’t great but their problems more are in management rather than players. They also play in the Western Conference which is a hard conference to play in regardless of who you are.

So with Eberle out of the equation, there is Jeff Petry who is a 27 year-old from Ann Arbor Michigan who could be a really good addition to the defense core of the Red Wings. He isn’t super offensive, but again as a defenseman I don’t expect him to be. Watching him play he plays tough hockey and having guys who are willing to protect your players like Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and rising young guns, that is only a good thing. Also he is from Michigan and having a hometown guy will be cool with players like Danny Dekeyser and Justin Abdelkrader.

He carries a 3 million dollar cap hit which isn’t super high and I would be willing to take on. He is a pending unrestricted free agent so it also gives the team a chance to resign him to a contract that they like. However one worrisome is that he has missed games due to a rib injury, but he could still be a good pick up after he has healed from the rib injury.

It will be interesting to see if the Detroit Red Wings do anything this NHL trade deadline. They tend to not do much, but maybe this season will be different. What do you think will happen? Let us know below and don’t forget to stay up to date on your Detroit Red Wings news on Detroit Jock City.
