Detroit Tigers “Burn Brothers” Could Combine For 100 Steals
By Tony Fischer
If you are a baseball fan you have probably heard of the Oakland A’s Bash Brothers Jose Canseco and Mark McGuire. There terrorized opposing pitchers in the late 80’s with the long ball. More than 30 years later there are new brothers emerging. They will also terrorize opposing pitchers and defenses. Except these brother will use a lot of speed significantly less power and zero steroids.

When the Detroit Tigers acquired Anthony Gose via trade this offseason to platoon with Rajai Davis in centerfield they set up a duo that could make a run at stealing 100 bases this season. Before you call me crazy check out these numbers.
Davis stole 35 bags for the Tigers last season he has stolen up to 50 in the past (2010) and 45 as recent as (2013). Despite not reaching the 40 mark last season, Davis is showing no sign of slowing down. In just 105 games in 2013 Davis notched his third highest stolen base total while playing for an aggressive Toronto Blue Jays offense. The 2015 Tigers also look to be employing an aggressive style meaning Davis could put up big numbers in the stolen base category.
Anthony Gose has only been in the majors for 3 years and does not have the same gaudy numbers as Davis but the 24-year-old should get a chance to burn up the base paths with the Tigers in 2015. Gose already has seven stolen bases this spring and looks like he has the speed to beat nearly any throw to second base. Could this be the season Gose breaks out and steals 40?
Davis and Gose will share time in center for the Tigers but there are plenty of scenarios that could see both playing together in the outfield. Additionally either will likely be used as a pinch runner late in games when the Ausmus needs to get a runner into scoring position. Those extra appearances along with the aggressive style the Tigers are employing this season could help Detroit’s “Burn Brothers” combine for 100 steals. That will add an entirely new level of excitement at Comerica Park.
Oh and when hear someone use “Burn Brothers” this season remember you heard it on Detroit Jock City first.
