2014 season recap
David Price spent time as a Tampa Bay Ray and a Detroit Tiger finishing the season with a 15-12 record and an ERA of 3.26 in 34 games. He led the league in strike outs and innings pitched with 271 Ks and 248.1 innings. He also posted a 1.4 BB/9 and a SO/9 of 9.8. Price got batters out throughout the season and helped the Tigers to the playoffs.

He can be a very reliable lefty and having him in the rotation can’t hurt this team really at all. I think he has another dominate season. Leading the league in either or both when it comes to strike outs and innings pitched. I see him staying low in the walks category again this season and helping the Tigers to 17-20 wins when he pitches.
Look for Price to have a good season that while some may not think will happen, actually will happen.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Weaknesses
When David Price has a bad day, it can be pretty bad. Sometimes his pitches just aren’t there and so he gets knocked around a bit. It could also be chalked up to maybe playing far too much. He led the league in games started with 34 and innings pitched. Maybe his bad days are just those days when his arm just gives up for the day.
Honestly that is the best I can do for a weakness in this guy, so far this Spring training he has been knocked around a lot, but again you sometimes have to take Spring training numbers with a big grain of salt.
Strengths
Price can strike guys out. In fact he led the league in strike outs last season with 271 and he doesn’t walk many only giving up 38 walks between Tampa and Detroit. He also can pitch a lot. Again he led the league in innings pitched with 248.1 innings pitched and so having a pitcher that can go longer in games is always considered a strength for a pitcher.
Detroit Tigers
If anything he will help out if the bullpen needs some rest if they have a lot of pitching to do for the other starters in the rotation. As I mentioned before, look for him to maybe rack up some complete games this season as he takes the role of number one in the rotation.
Depth Chart
Well, in the Justin Verlander roster preview I claimed there really was no way that Price would start over Verlander, but guess what he is. Brad Ausmus named Price the opening day starter and for the first time in 7 seasons Tiger fans will see someone new on the mound come opening day rather than Verlander.
Fast fun fact
Price has the absolute cutest dog named Astro who is a French bulldog.
I mean look at this guy he is too adorable.
So what do you think David Price will do this year? Will he be the lefty the Tigers have needed? Will he falter or fly high? Let us know below. Don’t forget to stay connected to Detroit Jock City for all your Detroit Tigers news. The season is only 6 days away!
