No thanks Mel Kiper Jr. Every other mock draft released this offseason has included the Detroit Lions selecting a defensive tackle with the 23rd pick. It’s always Malcom Brown of Texas.
The fact is, this is a reactionary pick. The loss of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley has the sports media up in arms about the Lions sudden need for a defensive tackle. The reality is that the Lions needs are overstated by the Kiper’s and McShay’s of the world on an annual basis. Last year it was cornerback by default in every mock draft. The same can be said for the year before.
I’m not saying that Malcom Brown is not a great player. He will have his fair share of looks come draft day. But the Lions would be wise to grab a guy like Clemson’s Grady Jarrett later in the draft.
